Swatting Incident Outside Saratoga Under Investigation
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a home on North Milton Road just outside Saratoga for what police said was a swatting incident. Swatting is when a prank call is made in an attempt to bring a large number of police officers to a specific location. WTEN reports the area was blocked off until it was confirmed as a swatting incident. Police said there is no emergency and no threat to the public. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Saratoga County Launches New Marketing Campaign
Saratoga County is out with new branding and marketing, called“America’s Turning Point, ”referring to the roles it played in the American Revolution. According to WNYT, a commission has been set up that’s planning big events over the next few years, leading up to 2027 and the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga and the British surrender.
Saratoga County Man Headed To Prison
More than three years after he was sentenced for shooting and paralyzing his neighbor, Joey Castro will soon be headed to prison. WNYT reports Castro was convicted back in 2018 and was sentenced up to 46 years in prison. However, an appeal has kept him free on bail. Castro will surrender to the court on Tuesday.
Congress Park Marks 20th Anniversary Of Carousel Acquisition
Free rides were offered Wednesday at the carousel in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs as a special milestone was celebrated. According to WTEN, The free rides were in honor of the 20th anniversary of the carousel being brought to the park.
When Kaydeross Park was sold in 1987, the carousel was put up for auction. But the city’s department of public works commissioner led a successful bid to keep it in Saratoga Springs.
Pepsi Continues Financial Support For Saratoga Hospital
Pepsi is continuing its support for Saratoga Hospital by pledging up to $455,000 over the next 10 years. WNYT reports the funding will support initiatives to provide affordable care to underserved communities, treat substance misuse, as well as nursing education programs. Pepsi also supports “The Gala” – which benefits the Saratoga Community Health Center, and The Golf Invitational – which helps support Saratoga Hospital’s nursing scholarship program.
Four People Charged In Home Break-In In Saratoga
Four people have been charged after an alleged burglary and robbery at a home in Saratoga Springs on Division Street. According to WTEN, a victim reported he went outside to speak with a male acquaintance and found three other people with that man. Police said the men went into the victim’s home and began to steal property, with one of the men allegedly displaying what appeared to be a pistol and threatening to shoot the victim if he caused any issues.
Man Drowns In Saratoga Lake
A man has drowned in Saratoga Lake. According to WNYT, it happened Tuesday near the 9P Bridge.
NewsChannel 13 is told he jumped out of a boat, and drowned. Crews recovered his body. No word on the identity of the victim.
COVID Vaccine Clinic For Kids Five And Under
Saratoga County is holding a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children between six months and five years of age. Officials said the Moderna vaccine will be available on Tuesday, June 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the county’s Public Safety Building at 6012 County Farm Road. WTEN reports Appointments will be required. To be eligible for vaccination at this clinic, children must reside in Saratoga County. There is no fee for this vaccine.
Clifton Park Gets ‘Walkability’ Funds
Clifton Park has been awarded $1.7 million in state funds to improve the walkability of the town. WNYT reports the goals are to improve traffic flow, walkability, connectivity, aesthetics and diversify businesses in the area. Clifton Park will continue to build sidewalks for people and bikers, and improve some crosswalks. The funds may also go toward the goal of building a park in the town center.
