Woman Dies In Crash In Halfmoon

A woman has died in a Halfmoon crash. WNYT reports 69 year old Frances Fay was turning from Farm to Market Road onto Route 146, when she was hit by a bigger vehicle on Tuesday morning, She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

GlobalFoundries Planning Workforce Reductions

GlobalFoundries is planning to reduce its workforce, reports WNYT. The company operates its Fab 8 computer chip factory in Malta. It comes despite the company reporting record earnings last week. It’s not clear if any jobs at the Malta plant would be affected. The company is seeking some of the $52 billion Federal Chips Act to expand domestic chip manufacturing.

Brown Cops Plea To Reduced Charges

Horse trainer Chad Brown was in court Monday and pleaded guilty to a reduced charge related to a confrontation at his home last summer. He was arrested for criminal obstruction of breathing. A woman says Brown pushed her down some stairs, pinned her to the floor and started choking her. The original charge against the 43-year-old Brown was a misdemeanor. Harassment is a violation. He’ll also pay $370 in fines and surcharges.

Clock Ticks On Saratoga Springs Budget Talks

Time is running out for the Saratoga Springs city council to approve a 2023 fiscal year budget. WRGB reports If they can’t approve a budget by November 30th, the proposed $54.2 million budget will go into effect; the budget is 0.04% higher than the adopted 2022 budget. The police department’s proposed budget is $10.7 million, the additional funding they will be getting are part of a mandatory union negotiation agreement

New York Sports Wagering Numbers

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced that since early January, when mobile sports wagering became available in New York, the State has collected $542 million in taxes through the week ending Oct. 30, surpassing every other state in the nation. An additional $200 million in licensing fees has also been collected, generating a total of more than $740 million in revenue, most of it to be used for education.

Saratoga County History Center Gets Grant

The Saratoga County History Center in Ballston Spa recently announced a $25,000 grant from the Saratoga Non-Profit Relief Grant Fund. These funds will support an immersive exhibition designed and built by professionals on the history of Saratoga County to open in spring 2023. The Saratoga County History Center is dedicated to the preservation and sharing of the diverse histories of Saratoga County.

Saratoga Springs Police Search For Missing Woman

The Saratoga Springs Police Department is searching for a woman reported missing. Lynn Black was last seen by family in August in Congress Park. WTEN reports Lynn, who is also known as Lynn Herrick, was last seen wearing long, black clothing. She is 63 years old and described as 5’5″ and 130 lbs with blonde hair. She is known to frequent Congress Park and the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (518) 584-1800.

Election ’22 Roundup

Democrat Kathy Hochul has become the first woman elected New York governor, winning the office outright that she took over in 2021 when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned. She defeated Republican congressman Lee Zeldin, an ally of Donald Trump who ran a campaign focused on fear of violent crime.

Democrat Letitia James has been elected to a second term as New York’s attorney general, an office she has used to pursue former President Donald Trump and a list of other powerful targets.

House District 21, Stefanik over Castelli.

According to the Saratogian, Democrat Jason Golub was the apparent winner in Tuesday’s race for Saratoga Springs Department of Public Works Commissioner, while Republican Karen Heggen was re-elected as Saratoga County District Attorney.

The Saratogian also reports, according to unofficial results from the Saratoga County Board of Elections, Golub defeated Republican challenger Anthony Scirocco III, 6,818 votes to 5,322 (56-44%). Golub was appointed DPW Commissioner in May, one month after longtime DPW head Anthony “Skip” Scirocco – Anthony Scirocco III’s father – died.

Heggen, meanwhile, eased by Michael Phillips, defeating her Democratic challenger 56-723-42,674 votes (57-43%). Republican Allison McGahay and Democrats Vincent Versaci and Robert Muller were the apparent winners in the race for three Supreme Court Justice seats in 4th Judicial District.

In the race for Saratoga Town Justice, it was John McCarron (R/C): 1389, Russell Kirkwood (D): 1015.

Four Cited In Underage Drinking Enforcement Detail

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Enforcement Detail in Saratoga County. They checked 16 businesses for compliance and four people were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child after selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21. The businesses that didn’t comply: Lucky Mart Valero, 1324 SR50, Ballston Spa, Runway Express, 1402 Saratoga Road, Ballston Spa, Savemore Beverage, 1512 SR9, Clifton Park, and Speedway, 1513 Crescent Road, Clifton Halfmoon.
