Halfmoon Man Charged With Criminal Sex Act, Endangering Counts

State Police arrested David Califano, 46, of Halfmoon, NY, for two counts of Criminal Sex Act and two Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On October 14, 2022, Troopers were contacted and received the report of inappropriate sexual contact between a person under the age of 17 and an unknown adult, who they now says was Califano. He turned himself in recently.

Grand Jury Will Hear Saratoga Officer Involved Shooting Case

The November officer involved shooting in Saratoga Springs is headed to a grand jury. WRGB reports Public Safety Commissioner Jim Montagnino says the officers involved in the shooting have been served with grand jury subpoenas and a hearing is expected to take place sometime in March. The shooting took place around 3 a.m. on November 20th, involving an off duty Rutland County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Halfmoon Man Arrested For Burglary

State Police of Clifton Park arrested 20 year old Tristan J. Mason of Halfmoon on burglary counts. Back on January 4th, Troopers responded to a business on Corporate Drive in Halfmoon for the reports of a burglary and determined in the previous overnight hours, Mason entered the business offices without permission and took items. Mason will be back in Halfmoon Town Court on February 22nd.

Two Northway Crashes Lead To DWI Charges

Two people were arrested early Sunday and charged with DWI after separate crashes on the Northway in Malta. A disabled vehicle was struck by one driven by Anthony S. Alifano, 28, of Clifton Park. He was arrested and charged. After the first crash, Tameka E. Jones, 38, of Queensbury, was traveling southbound and struck the disabled vehicle in the center lane, causing Jones’ vehicle to turn over. Jones was uninjured and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Ballston Spa Man Accused Of Fleeing From DWI Checkpoint

Driving while impaired, reckless driving and fleeing a police officer charges face a Ballston Spa man who police say sped away from a DWI checkpoint on Ballston Avenue. 28 year old Javier Dalmasi took off from officers before being arrested, said police. He was held in the custody of the Saratoga County sheriff in lieu of bail.

Chowderfest Draws Big Crowd To Saratoga

Over 80 types of chowder and a sea of people filled downtown Saratoga Springs at the 24th annual Chowderfest. WRGB reports thousands turned out for the event over the weekend. The festival returned to a one day only event; last year the festivities lasted a whole week.

Shelter Discussions Continued Thursday Night

Thursday night was part two of a discussion on where to place a homeless shelter in the Spa City, after the current suggestion was shot down over concerns it was too close to an elementary school. WTEN reports Mayor Ron Kim says there will be no homeless shelter at this time. But he has a plan to get the ball rolling by appointing a task force to take a deeper dive on the feasibility of the project.

Two Arrested After Traffic Stop In Moreau

State Police on patrol observed a vehicle pulled over on the side of State Route 9 in the town of Moreau. A preliminary investigation determined that when talking to the driver, Ricky G. Rickson, 52, of Scotia, Troopers observed a glass smoking device and white, chalky substance inside the vehicle. During the investigation, cocaine, Xanax pills and multiple measuring scales were located inside the vehicle. Rickson and his passenger Alexandria D. Lorman, 25, of Greenfield were both arrested.

GM, Global Foundries Sign Deal

General Motors has signed a deal with GlobalFoundries. WNYT reports GlobalFoundries said they will expand production capacity at its Malta plant, exclusively for GM’s supply chain. The factory will supply finished computer chips to General Motor parts suppliers that manufacture computer modules to control their products.

New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection has issued some tips on how to save money when grocery shopping. They include Plan your meals in advance to reduce food waste and cost. Look for deals and take advantage of store savings by enrolling in store reward programs. Shop strategically. Take inventory of what you have at home before going shopping. Go to the grocery store with a list, having planned out your meals until your next grocery trip.
