Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Congressman Josh Harder (D-CA) have led a bipartisan letter to United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack calling on him to oppose the Biden Administration’s proposed rule to reduce the amount of milk available to WIC families. They say the proposed reduction of dairy in the WIC food packages will have unintended and significant negative effects on the health of WIC participants.
Public Meetings Set On Proposed Fertilizer Facility
Saratoga Biochar Solutions, LLC is planning two more community meetings regarding its fertilizer facility set for construction at the Moreau Industrial Complex to create fertilizer using the leftover solids from wastewater treatment plants. One is happenign Tuesday, March 28th, 6-9 p.m. at Fort Edward Jr.-Sr. High School. The second happens the next day, from 2 to 5pm, at Sandy Hill Arts Center, 214 Main St., Hudson Falls.
Saratoga County Man Accused Of Hitting Child
Court date next month for a Saratoga County man accused of assaulting a child. 37 year old Douglas Williams of Halfmoon hit and injured a child under 7, said the sheriff’s office, who add the victim is related to Williams. WNYT reports he was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and released with a temporary order of protection.
Black Lives Matter Leader In Court
A local Black Lives Matter leader faced a judge Tuesday in Saratoga Springs City Court. According to WNYT,
Chandler Hickenbottom was cited for disorderly conduct after a city council meeting last month that got heated.
The public safety commissioner later filed a criminal complaint.
Clifton Park Man Cuffed On Child Endangerment Counts
State Police arrested 32 year old Philip Sperge of Clifton Park, NY, for four counts of Criminal Sex Act and four Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On October 14, 2022, Troopers were contacted and received the report of inappropriate sexual contact between a person under the age of 17 and an unknown adult. The investigation identified the involved individual as Spergel. Further investigation determined Spergel had sexual contact with a person under the age of 17 in the towns of Colonie and Brunswick.
Cohoes Fire Leaves 16 Homeless
No one was hurt in a Cohoes fire on Tuesday morning, but the Red Cross helped 16 people who are without a home – including two kids. WNYT reports flames broke out at 44 Johnston Avenue around 7 a.m., across from the former Saint Agnes School. No word on a cause.
Ballston Spa Man To Be Sentenced On Sex Crimes
Sentencing is expected in a couple of months for a former Ballston Spa High School math teacher who pleaded guilty to sex abuse. WNYT reports Crim Trerise will be sentenced to four years in prison after he was arrested last year, accused of sexually abusing four children, who were not in the school where he taught.
Halfmoon Man Faces Additional Charges In Burglary Probe
Additional charges face Halfmoon man as part of a burglary investigation. According to WNYT, Tristan Mason is accused of committing burglaries at a warehouse and medical office in Halfmoon. Mason was slapped earlier this year with a burglary charge, accused of stealing from another business office in Halfmoon.
Car Bursts Into Flames On Northway Near Halfmoon During Monday PM Commute
A car overheated then caught fire on the Northway in the middle of the Monday evening commute. WNYT reports tt happened at around 6:20 p.m. Monday on the Northway northbound near Halfmoon. Traffic was reduced to one lane for about an hour.
No one was hurt, and the fire remains under investigation.
Saratoga’s Top Earner
Saratoga Springs Police Sgt. Daniel Mullen was the city’s top earner in 2022, out-earning the other top nine employees by almost $18,500. The Daily Gazette reports Mullen grossed $173,492 in 2022. His base salary is $94,469, but he earned over $69,000 in overtime last year. Public Safety Commissioner James Montagnino said Mullen is the sergeant in charge of traffic. and works all holidays.
