Sovereignty, the winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby, has officially arrived at the Saratoga Race Course, according to the New York Racing Association. The colt’s arrival came just two days after news that trainer Bill Mott had decided to skip the Preakness Stakes, thus forgoing a Triple Crown attempt, and aim for the Belmont Stakes instead. Mott told NYRA that he would see how Sovereignty acts once he settles down and then decide upon an exercise routine.

The Clifton Park town board is holding a hearing to get the public’s opinion on a proposal to ban electric bikes in town nature preserves and town parks. According to WTEN, The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, May 19 in the Wood Memorial Meeting Room in the town office building.
Workers Unearth Old Burial Site In Glens Falls
Workers on Thursday discovered the remnants of an old burial site during construction on South Street in Glens Falls. According to WNYT, police said they located a few human bones that appear to be from the old cemetery and from one grave site. Historical records and the city’s historian noted that the cemetery was there until about 1850, and it was then moved to Bay Street.
Fire Heavily Damages South Glens Falls Home
A family is displaced after a large fire left their home destroyed Thursday night. WNYT reports the South Glens Falls Fire Company responded to Stillwood Lane at 6:47 Thursday night for a report of a structure. The roof caved in as firefighters were inside the home. There were no injuries to any firefighters or any civilians.
SSDBA Seeks Free Parking Days In Saratoga
The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association is in the midst of conversations with the city Department of Public Works about potentially having free parking days as the city gears up for another summer of seasonal paid parking in city-owned parking garages and surface lots. The Daily Gazette reports the city is set to begin its first full season of paid parking on Memorial Day.
Glens Falls YMCA Gets Additional Dollars For Capital Improvement Project
The Glens Falls YMCA is receiving additional funding for its $6 million Capital Improvement project. Hudson River Community Credit Union has donated $100,000 to go toward upgrading the facility and expand programming. WTEN reports the YMCA is still raising funds to cover the cost of the project, and they’re asking for community donations.
Saratoga County Launches Public Health Dashboard
The Saratoga County Department of Health is sharing more information about its brand-new public dashboard for parents. WNYT reports a mailer for parents of newborns, that includes a list of helpful resources around the Capital Region, will be sent out to those that need it. The mailing initiative also provides parents with info on breastfeeding, parenting programs, food assistance, needed immunizations, and mental health services, and pushes them to find more information online.
Northumberland Man Accused Of Injuring Baby
A Northumberland man has been arrested, accused of injuring a baby, New York State Police said recently. The Daily Gazette reports Cody M. Falconio, 31, of Northumberland, was arrested April 25 and charged with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Court Appearance For Parents Charged In Child’s Death
The two parents of a 3-year-old girl in Corinth who died in February were back in court Tuesday afternoon after being charged last week with criminally negligent homicide. WNYT reports Samantha Dylewski, 32, and Matthew Dylewski, 33, are accused of causing the death of their daughter Joycelynn Dylewski on Feb. 19. Investigators have said that she had been living in deplorable conditions with significant bug infestation at 231 Main St., Apt. 4.
Rayher Trial Continues, Deputy Testifies
In week two of the trial of a Milton man accused of recklessly killing an Elvis impersonator from Ticonderoga, jurors saw some of the text messages between the two men detailing their sexual fantasy. The Daily Gazette reports Saratoga County Sheriff’s Investigator Matthew Robinson continued Monday to testify about the messages between 70-year-old Ronald Rayher of Milton and Thomas J. Krider of Ticonderoga, more commonly known as TJ Greene.
